GigaLaser Red Light Therapy for Fertility

RFC now offers photobiomodulation on the GigaLaser — the same Class 3B laser system used in the Danish and Norwegian fertility protocols. One session delivers roughly 20,000 joules of near-infrared and red light across a 500 cm² field covering the entire lower abdomen and pelvis.

What is GigaLaser therapy at RFC?

GigaLaser therapy is a non-invasive photobiomodulation treatment in which 808 nm near-infrared laser and 660 nm red light are applied across the lower abdomen and pelvis to support mitochondrial energy production in reproductive tissue. At Rejuvenating Fertility Center it is offered as an adjunct alongside proven fertility care, at $100 per session, with a minimum course of six sessions given two to three times per week.

Photobiomodulation goes by several names — PBM, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), and cold laser therapy all describe the same thing. What separates the GigaLaser from a consumer red light panel is dose and depth. Where a home panel delivers a modest amount of scattered LED light, the GigaLaser is a medical laser system built around 36 coherent 808 nm diodes that hold their beam over distance and reach deeper tissue.

RFC added it for a specific reason. A large share of our patients arrive having been told that egg quality is the limiting factor, and egg quality is fundamentally a mitochondrial question. Anything that plausibly acts on mitochondrial output belongs in the conversation — provided it is offered with an honest account of what has and has not been shown. That account is on this page.

What GigaLaser therapy is used for

Light therapy is not a treatment for one diagnosis. It acts on something several fertility problems have in common — the energy supply and blood flow of pelvic tissue. Below are the six situations in which RFC patients most often ask about it, what the light is being used to target in each, and the RFC treatment that carries the actual clinical weight alongside it.

 01 · Egg quality

Egg quality after 35 and 40

A maturing egg is one of the most energy-hungry cells in the body, and its developmental potential tracks closely with mitochondrial output. That output declines with age. Near-infrared light is applied here to support ATP production in ovarian tissue during the weeks a follicle is growing.

 04 · Inflammation

Endometriosis and pelvic inflammation

Photobiomodulation's best-established effects anywhere in medicine are on inflammation and tissue repair — that is what the device is FDA-cleared for. Applying it across the whole pelvis targets the inflammatory environment that sits underneath a great many endometriosis and implantation cases.

 02 · Implantation

Thin lining and failed transfers

An embryo needs an endometrium with the blood supply to receive it. The GigaLaser's 660 nm red light is specifically associated with local microcirculation, and the near-infrared component reaches deeper uterine tissue. Patients preparing for a transfer often run a course in the cycle beforehand.

 05 · Ovulation

PCOS and irregular cycles

In PCOS animal models, light therapy moved reproductive hormones toward normal range and improved ovulation markers, with near-infrared outperforming visible red. Human data specific to PCOS has not arrived yet, so this is a supporting measure rather than a substitute for ovulation induction.

 03 · Ovarian reserve

Low AMH, high FSH, diminished reserve

When you have fewer follicles, every one of them counts. Animal studies found that light therapy shifted follicle dynamics and reduced follicular cell death, while leaving the primordial reserve itself unchanged — meaning it worked on the follicles already in play rather than creating new ones. That is the honest scope of what it targets.

 06 · Tissue and flow

Scar tissue, adhesions, post-surgical pelvis

This is the application closest to the device's cleared indications: increasing local circulation, softening scar tissue, and easing pelvic pain and muscle tension. Patients with a history of pelvic surgery, C-section, or endometriosis excision are frequently the ones who notice the most day-to-day difference.

How light reaches a mitochondrion

The proposed pathway is specific, which is what makes it testable rather than merely appealing. A maturing egg is among the most energy-demanding cells in the body, and its developmental potential tracks closely with mitochondrial output.

01 Absorption

Cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, absorbs red and near-infrared light.

02 Release

Light displaces nitric oxide from that enzyme. Nitric oxide acts as a brake on energy production; removing it lets the chain run more freely.

03 Output

Mitochondrial membrane potential rises and ATP production increases — more usable energy inside the cell.

04 Downstream

Reduced granulosa cell apoptosis, improved steroidogenesis, and better follicular microvasculature — the three changes our own findings are consistent with.

What a course looks like, and what we promise

You lie down fully clothed while three GigaLaser panels are positioned over the lower abdomen and pelvis. Protective eyewear is provided. Nothing is injected, applied to your skin, or swallowed. The session runs about twenty minutes; most patients feel nothing beyond mild warmth. There is no downtime and you can drive yourself home.

RFC's schedule mirrors the published Danish protocol — six treatments concentrated into the follicular window, two to three per week. Where possible we start near the beginning of your cycle so the course completes before ovulation or before a planned retrieval. Dosing in photobiomodulation follows a biphasic curve, meaning more is not automatically better, which is why we hold to a defined schedule instead of letting patients stack sessions.

Who we offer this to

The clinics with the most experience in this approach reported their strongest signal in women from their mid-thirties into their forties who had already been through unsuccessful treatment elsewhere. That is a precise description of a great many people who walk into RFC, and it is a large part of why we brought the device in.

If you are -

Over 35 or over 40 and have been told egg quality is the limiting factor

Living with diminished ovarian reserve, low AMH or high FSH

Preparing for an IVF cycle or egg freezing and want to support the tissue beforehand

Working through repeated implantation failure or recurrent loss

Managing PCOS, endometriosis or pelvic inflammation

When we hold off

We do not treat over an active pregnancy, over a known or suspected malignancy in the treatment field, over the abdomen of a patient taking photosensitizing medication, or where there is active infection in the area. A history of pelvic cancer is cleared individually.

If one of these applies, it is a question of timing rather than a closed door. Your physician will tell you what needs to change and when the course can go ahead.
